The past week saw some significant news on several hot political issues. Meanwhile the ruling by a federal judge striking down California's Proposition 8 popular referendum on marriage (far from settled as appeals will continue) and the confirmation of Elana Kagan to the Supreme Court only re-emphasized the role of the courts as a political issue.
